CNSUK Summer Retreat 2019

Family and friends of Centre for Nepal Studies UK (CNSUK) met for a summer gathering in Reading to enjoy a barbecue party combined with an intensive reflection of past activities and planning of CNSUK.

This year’s Summer Retreat was held on 13 July 2019 in Reading. Activities reviewed, included: publication of a book on Gorkha Pension Policy Report with Impact analysis in Nepali language; final preparation toward publishing an open access Global Journal on Nepali Diaspora; Motilal Singh Master’s Dissertation Scholarship 2019 for students in Nepal; publication of the book ‘Vernacular Religion: Cultural Politics, Community Belonging, and Personal Practice in the UK’s Nepali Diaspora’ (based on joint research on Diaspora religion with the Oxford University, co-published with Bajra Books Kathmandu); involvement of CNSUK in Tripartite Technical team on ex-Gurkha issues to inform both British and Nepali Governments.

Retreat committed to carry on working, publishing, and contributing academically on Gorkha issues and research pertaining to Nepal and Nepali diaspora. Furthermore, the meeting pledged to be involved in Nepal Study Day 2019 convened by British Nepal Academic Council (BNAC) and coordinate with BNAC on areas of mutual interests.
