Directory 2011 of Nepali (Individuals, Business & Organisations) in the UK
The directory was published following the success of Telephone Directory and Year Planner 2010. This year the Directory was expanded on coverage and details including telephone, fax, email and website details of business and community organisations. Similarly, Individual’s telephone list was sorted geographically. Dr Raju Babu Shrestha coordinated the task whereas Mrs Ranju Hajur Panday provided administrative services.
Statement:
In the past decade, the number of people of Nepali (Nepalese)* origin in the UK has increased significantly for various reasons. Along with the rise in their number, the Nepalis in the UK have gradually started to diversify their activities in an organised manner by opening various social and business organisations. Despite having various organisations and close relations within the communities, there was a lack of a reliable source from which information on Nepali individuals, businesses and organisations could be accessed. To fulfil this need to some extent, in 2010, CNSUK had taken the initiative to publish the Telephone Directory of Nepalese (Individuals, Businesses and Organisations) in the UK and Year Planner.
The Telephone Directory 2010 was received well as a ‘must have’ resource material by various individuals and organisations. Moreover, for the business community the Telephone Directory proved to be one of the best and durable means to reach potential members and customers, some of whom are not reached easily through existing means. Unfortunately, a large number of individuals, organisations and businesses had to be disappointed as they were not entered in the Telephone Directory. As a result, the demand for new edition became very high. Considering all these factors into account, we are pleased to present this new Directory 2011 to you with increased coverage, improvements and enlargement of the materials.
The Directory 2011 has four main new features. It includes: a) a large number of additional contact details with reorganisation of the materials, b) email, website, and mailing address of community and business organisations, c) a detailed Nepali and English calendar, and d) materials of public interest, such as: a short list of festivals and events, information on 2011 UK Census and Nepal Tourism Year 2011. With all these additions and improvements, now we call simply a Directory rather than Telephone Directory.
We aim to develop the Directory as a resource material on Nepalis in the UK as well as a means for promoting social and business enterprises. In previous Directory, we had included an introductory section of the Nepalis in the UK based on the firsthand research materials. In this edition, we have added a new sponsored section to provide opportunity to leading professional/social/community organisations to introduce themselves. As a result, we are able to print thousands of more copies of the Directory. We aim to make the Directory freely accessible to as many Nepali or related households or organisations in the UK as possible.
Despite having increased coverage, we are aware that this Directory has coverage of limited number of Nepali individuals in the UK. Even though a large number of community organisations have been included this time, there are still several organisations that we do not have contact details. However, the coverage of businesses is reasonably high.
The individuals’ details have been grouped in ascending order by town/city and then within each town/city the contact list is prepared in ascending order according to their first name. Community organisations have been listed in ascending order as per the organisations’ names. On the other hand, businesses have been first categorised according to their type, and presented in ascending order. Then, within each category, their names are listed in ascending order. The businesses and organisations, which have advertisement or sponsored materials published in the Directory, have been refereed with an asterisk mark (*) in the list.
Great care has been given to ensure the contact details are accurate. Any error, nevertheless, therein, is highly regretted and will be corrected in the next edition. We have included a page for you to add, change, delete, sponsor or advertise your details in our Directory 2012. As you can see, we have leapt forward from our last year’s ‘the small first step’. In the mean time, we are aware that there is still a long journey ahead. The journey will continue.

This publication is CNSUK’s not-for-profit activity. Our members worked hard and voluntarily for months. With the help from the senior members namely, Dr Chandra Laksamba, Mr Lokendra Dhakal and Mr Ananda Bhandari, Dr. Raju Shrestha coordinated the task and Mrs Ranju Hajur Panday Bhandari managed and updated the existing contacts.
