Leicester in the First World War: The first Gurkha VC Kulbir Thapa

Rifleman Kulbir Thapa, VC, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurkha Rifles, is the first Nepali who had been awarded the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest gallantry medal of the United Kingdom by His Majesty the King George V for the battle he fought and for saving the lives of his comrades at South of Mauquissart in France on 25 and 26 September 1915. At the time of the War, he was only 26 years old.
