The Centre for Nepal Studies UK (CNSUK), in collaboration with South Asia Time (www.southasiatime.com) — a UK-based online news portal — is carrying out small research project on business enterprises in the UK led by people of Nepali origin. This research project aims, alongside profiling business leaders, to document the evolution, contribution, challenges, and future prospects of the Nepali-led businesses in the UK. It is expected to provide a valuable resource for researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and the wider Nepali diaspora.
The Centre for Nepal Studies UK is looking to recruit a graduate student/ early career researcher based in the UK on a short-term voluntary internship basis to engage in this research project, in particular to carry out following tasks:
1. Search Companies House and other publicly available information sources to explore and build a database on Nepali-led businesses in the UK.
2. Data collection through formal/informal interviews and telephone enquiries and surveys.
3. Carry out literature reviews and case studies.
3. Undertake other research-related work (such as data compilation, verification, entry, analysis and reporting), both independently and as a part of the team.
Prior experience of research enquiries and data management in Excel is desirable but not essential, as there will be appropriate on-the-job training for the appointed individual.
Duration: one month
The intern will have the opportunity to work under the guidance of Dr Krishna Adhikari of the CNSUK and under the direct supervision of Dr Jaganath Karki of South Asia Time. Though this is a voluntary internship position, there will be small honorarium of £250 as a goodwill gesture upon completion of the internship. We would expect the work to start on 4th August and to end on 3rd September 2026. There may be an opportunity to extend the term by another month by mutual agreement.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student/ early career researcher to gain research experience and build an academic/research profile under the mentorship of scholars with longstanding experience of research and teaching. Their contribution will be formally recognised by the CNSUK and South Asia Time, and references will be provided as and when needed.
